The Wellington campus library is located between the Pyramid and Tussock Bar and Café.
From Wallace Street, you can get to the library from Entrance A, B or C. Entrance A is the main entrance.
From Tasman Street (Entrance E), go through the glass doors on the left of Tussock and turn left to reach the library.

We offer drop-in library tours at the beginning of Semesters One and Two. For more details, ask at the Level A service point or email us at Library@massey.ac.nz.

Study areas and rooms
The library has a range of places where you can study. There are study spaces for individuals and groups on Levels A, B and the mezzanine.
Waka One, Two and Three on Level B are long tables for quiet, study-related conversation.
Study tables, chairs and booths are located throughout the library. These do not require booking and most have access to power points.
Huihui One and Two are rooms for small groups on Level A.
Huihui Three and Four are rooms for small groups on Level B.
The Huihui rooms need to be booked. You can book them a week in advance, for up to two hours per day.
There is also a parents’ room on Level A. You can use this if you have children with you.
Service point
You’ll find the service point on Level A. The service point is the place to go for:
- borrowing, renewing and returning items
- collecting items you’ve requested
- paying fines
- the short loan collection
- IT help and support
- finding out where library materials, information and resources are
- help with referencing software and tools, including EndNote
- help with MyLibrary and managing your library record online
- research support
- library tours and classes
- general help and information
- lost property.
Your Massey ID card acts as your library card for borrowing items. You can also use it for printing and photocopying.
If you’re a staff member or postgraduate researcher, you can also make an appointment with a subject librarian.
Some services may not be available on weekday evenings after 6pm, weekends and public holidays.
Computers and wifi
There are PC and Apple computers on Levels A and B. You can use any of these computers during the library’s open hours if you’re a current student or staff member.
Computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and can’t be reserved.
There are also several PCs you can use to search for library resources.
The computers in the library have the same software and applications as the computers in the general student computing labs. These include:
- Microsoft Windows
- Microsoft Office
- Adobe Creative Cloud (available on Macs only)
- EndNote (available on Macs only)
- Multimedia players
- OneDrive.
No other software or plug-ins may be installed on the computers.
It’s essential that you follow the ITS Information Security Centre’s policies and guidelines.
Using the wifi network
Massey’s wifi network is available throughout the library and is free to all staff and students.

IT help and support
Visit the service point if you need IT support. You can also get specialised IT help by phoning Te Paepoto Student Support Centre on 0800 627 739 from 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
We have online information to help you with:
Printing, photocopying and scanning
Printers are available throughout the library. You can use them to:
- print in colour and black and white, on both A3 and A4 paper
- photocopy, including onto overhead transparencies
- scan.
If you want to photocopy onto overhead transparencies, you’ll need to buy sheets at the service point.

- There is no charge for students to print, copy or scan.
- Massey monitors printing and copying transactions and charges. Excessive costs may be recovered by the university.

Disability access
The library has:
- mobility parking nearby
- automatic doors
- accessible toilets on Level B
- a lift to all floors.
The nearest accessible toilets are located at 5A04 and outside Tussock.
Library staff can also help you with:
- using the photocopiers
- collecting books from shelves.
It’s a good idea to let us know in advance if you’ll need our help with these.
If you have individual requirements you need to discuss, contact disability services.
Off-campus students
If you’re studying off campus, you can visit the Wellington campus library and use the same facilities and services as those studying on campus. Make sure you bring your student ID card or other photo identification if you don’t have one.
You can get FreePost return labels from the service point so you can send back any materials you borrow. You can return books to any campus library.
Study and writing support
The Centre for Learner Success provides a range of learning support services and is located on Level A of the library.
Learning Advisors and Writing Consultants can answer your questions about academic writing and study skills or give you feedback on your assignment’s structure, focus, presentation, use of sources, and referencing. Book an appointment to meet with an advisor or contact the Centre for Learner Success to discuss your needs.
Disability Services is located inside the Centre for Learner Success and supports students who have a disability, impairment or health issue to succeed with their studies. Register online,book a time to meet with a Disability and Inclusion Advisor, or email disability@massey.ac.nz.
Collections
The Wellington library has a general collection with particular strengths in:
- fine arts
- photography
- design
- screen arts
- music
- communications.

Te Pikitanga exhibition space
As a student or researcher at Massey’s Wellington campus, you can apply to display your work at Te Pikitanga exhibition space.
College of Creative Arts students can get experience curating and designing exhibitions.
What you can exhibit
Your exhibition should reflect the scholarly, cultural or social concerns of the community at Massey University Wellington.
Your application will go to the campus librarian for approval. As part of this, you need to tell us if your proposed exhibition has any potential areas of concern, for example:
- images of tīpuna
- religious content
- nudity or sexual content
- hate speech.
You’ll also have the chance to discuss photography of your exhibition and noise content if your work includes performance or video.
If you plan to use Massey University or Massey University Library logos and branding in your work, you need to discuss this with us when you apply.
How to apply
To apply, you can either print the application form and give it to a library staff member, or complete an online application.
After you’ve applied, library staff will get in touch to discuss your application.
Promoting your exhibition
Library staff will promote your exhibition in a limited way through library social media channels, but apart from this promoting your exhibition is up to you.
If items from your exhibition are damaged or stolen, Massey University and Massey University Library are not liable for this.
Other services and facilities
Parents’ room
You can use the parents’ room for studying with young children, feeding babies and changing nappies.
You need to ask at the service point to use the room. Library staff will show you where it is.
After-hours returns
When the Library is closed, you can return your items through the after-hours slot facing the car park at Entrance E off Tasman Street.
Respecting other library users
The library is a place for study, and it’s important to respect other library users while you’re using the facilities.
Food and drink
You can bring cold food only, and drink, into the library if you’re careful with it.
Noise
Please keep noise levels to a minimum and turn off your mobile phone or put it on silent while you’re in the library.
Look for the signs indicating zones for silent, quiet and group study.
